Fire department compiling history

The Wellington Volunteer Fire Department is compiling the department's history as part of the town's centennial celebration in 2005.

Company officer John Valerius is seeking names of former members willing to be interviewed for stories to be included in the book. He is also looking for historic photos.

"I need lots of pictures," Valerius said. "The history book will cover from 1905, the start of the fire department, to 2005."

People may drop off pictures or information at the fire department from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or they may call Valerius at 568-7549 to schedule an interview or set a time when he can pick up information.

Photos and information may also be mailed to the department at P.O. Box 10, Wellington, CO 80549.

Wellington's town board needs residents with knowledge or interest in the history and future of Wellington and the surrounding area to serve on a committee that will plan the events to celebrate the town's 100th birthday. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend a meeting on April 19 at 6 p.m. in the Wellington Town Hall, 3735 Cleveland Ave.

Those who want to help, although they cannot attend the April meeting, should call Cynthia Sullivan, deputy town clerk, at 568-3381 for committee applications and information.
