Superintendent search continues

Poudre School District's top candidate for superintendent has turned down the job. Even extended negotiations to sweeten the offer failed to attract Vickie Markavitch to Colorado.

She and the board terminated contract negotiations on May 14. A few days later, the board decided to focus efforts on naming a new interim superintendent. The current interim superintendent, Gary Bamford, plans to retire July 31.

The superintendent search is a result of the board forcing the resignation of Don Unger last fall. Unger held the top school district job for 10 years.

The board plans to solicit applications for interim superintendent from both PSD staff and external candidates. The search process for an ongoing superintendent will resume this fall with the help of the Colorado Association of School Boards.
