Maulsby, Gerner hired as assistant superintendentsRon Maulsby, who recently retired from the principal's post at Cache La Poudre Elementary School, is one of two new assistant superintendents for school services hired by the Poudre School District Board of Education. The other assistant is Sherry Gerner, who has been the superintendent for Englewood School District the past two years. Salaries for the jobs are $118,000 a year. Maulsby brings 21 years of experience as a principal and seven years of teaching experience to his new position. He earned a master's degree in educational administration from Colorado State University, his elementary education teaching certification from the University of California at Irvine and a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from the University of Colorado. "I consider it a real honor to be given this opportunity," he said. "I have a lot of confidence that the staff and parents in our district will rally together and continue to work toward becoming a very collaborative school district. That's my wish as I begin this new role." Gerner also served as assistant superintendent in Adams 12 Five Star School District, as superintendent of the Wiggins School District and as a principal, teacher and curriculum director in Arizona and Kansas. In her current position in Englewood, she has full responsibility for all areas of the district. At the Adams 12 Five Star District, she directed and supervised curriculum, assessment, special education, student services, athletics, English language learners, gifted education, staff development, charter schools, school improvement and district accountability committees. Gerner earned her master's and doctorate degrees in education leadership and administration from Kansas State University and a bachelor of arts degree in education from Kansas Wesleyan University. "I am thrilled and honored to have been chosen for this position," she said. "I look forward to working with an excellent staff to build upon the fine reputation of the Poudre School District." Maulsby plans to start immediately, and Gerner will join PSD part time while transitioning from her current position. PSD's assistant superintendent of school services positions have been vacant during recent restructuring. Gary Bamford served in one of the two positions before taking over as interim superintendent in January. In addition, PSD has an assistant superintendent of business services, Jim Sarchet. |
