RFL hires new library director and assistant

A former Larimer County resident has been hired as library director of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library.

Sarah Myers will begin her duties on Aug. 16. She and her husband, Ben, are moving here from Flagstaff, Ariz., where she is the resource specialist librarian at the University of Northern Arizona's Cline Library.

Myers replaces Marilyn Colter, who is now owner-manager of Mountain Crafts Gallery in Red Feather Lakes.

In addition to a new director, the library has a new administrative assistant, Jane Wagner. She and her husband, Gerry, live in Red Feather Lakes.

Wagner taught second grade for eight years in Missouri and Keensburg, Colo., and then kept the books for her family's business for 13 years. She is interested in music and genealogy and is a member of the Red Feather Lakes Fire Department Auxiliary.

Myers grew up in Loveland and Fort Collins and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor's degree in music and a minor in history. She later attended University of Denver for a computer science graduate certificate.

Following that, she worked at the Colorado State University Libraries in Fort Collins and worked on her masters in library and information science through a distance-learning program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Myers has six years of library experience and experience in management and technology.

Libraries play a role in enhancing knowledge, advancing quality of life, stimulating thinking and ideas, and serving as cornerstones of democracy, Myers said.

The new director's other interests include beading, knitting, music, hiking, biking and, of course, reading.

"I am looking forward to meeting everyone in the community and am very enthusiastic about contributing to the future achievements of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library," Myers said.
