Town hall will manage Wellington recreation programs

Wellington town government has taken over the job of managing recreation programs from the nonprofit, volunteer organization Wellington Recreation Sports Association.

WRSA has sponsored the town's community recreation program for about a decade, but the town board decided to fund that task in this year's budget. Parks foreman Jake Raynolds will be the town's recreation coordinator.

"WRSA did a great job," Raynolds said, but the move to town hall will give the program more stability and access to resources. Liability insurance, for example, has become a big expense for volunteer groups.

The recreation program still needs volunteer coaches, however. Program offerings this year are spring and fall soccer, T-ball, coach-pitch baseball, player-pitch baseball, flag football, youth softball and adult co-ed softball with leisure, rec and competitive leagues. Spring soccer registration is open from Feb. 13 to March 10. There are teams for ages 4 to 5, 6 to 7, 8 to 9 and 10 and older. The season is April 1 to May 20. Games will be held at Library Park.

Player-pitch baseball registration, for ages 10 to 17, is Feb. 6 to March 10. The season is June 1 to July 24. Games will be held at Library Park and locations in Fort Collins.

All youth sports have a registration fee of $25 with jerseys available for $15. Registration forms can be picked up at town hall, 3735 Cleveland Ave.
