Workshops focus on recreation

County residents will have opportunities in September to comment on two separate plans, the new master plan for the Larimer County Parks system and the new resource management plan for Horsetooth, Carter, Flatiron and Pinewood Reservoirs, all part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project.

The September workshops will focus on development of alternatives for the management plans. Workshops will be held Sept. 13, 5 to 8 p.m., at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland; and on Sept. 14, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lincoln Center's Canyon West Room.

The two plans are being submitted for public comment at the same time because both concern county-managed recreation. The Bureau of Reclamation contracts with Larimer County to manage recreation at the four C-BT reservoirs.

In terms of the C-BT reservoirs, the public may comment on fees, trails, camping areas, climbing areas and accessibility. Spokesperson Kara Lamb said the water level at the reservoirs will not be up for discussion, since it is dictated by the legal priorities of ag/municipal water supply and power generation.

Draft plans will be prepared this October, and the new plans are scheduled to be adopted early in 2007.
