Poudre science team wins national bowlPoudre High School's Science Bowl team took first place in the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., on April 30, defeating the defending champions from State College, Pa. PHS is the first Colorado team to ever win this national award. Following its win, the PHS team was taken by limousine to meet President Bush at the White House. Team members Patrick Chaffey, Sam Elder, Winston Gao, Sam Sun and Logan Wright earned the right to compete in the National Science Bowl by winning the state Science Bowl competition in February. Their coach is Jack Lundt. Sixty-four teams competed nationally. All expenses for the competition are paid by the U.S. Department of Energy. Winning team members receive an all-expense-paid, two-week trip to Australia. |
