Rocky makes baseball historyRocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, on May 19, brought home its first boys' state championship since the school opened 33 years ago and the first state baseball championship in city history. Playing at Denver's All City Stadium for the 5A title, Rocky trounced Wheat Ridge 12-2 with the "10-run rule," meaning the game concluded when Rocky gained a 10-run lead in the sixth inning. To reach the championship game, the Lobos defeated Fort Collins, Columbine, Wheat Ridge and Air Academy. "It's a credit to our kids," said head coach Scott Bullock. "They've been working hard their whole lives." Bullock, who played high school and college baseball, is in his fourth year of coaching at Rocky. He's pleased to have a number of underclassman returning next year to hold onto the title. Junior shortstop and MVP Andy Burns, who was also named player of the year in the conference, will be one of those coming back. "There's a target on our back," Bullock said. "We look forward to the challenge." |
