Pact sends Swetsville sculptures to Timnath

Why will some of the heavy metal inhabitants of Swetsville Zoo soon cross Harmony Road?

To get to the other side where they will delight, enchant and amuse those enjoying Timnath's eventual network of parks and trails.

Timnath and metal sculptor Bill Swets have reached agreement for selling two of his artworks to the town and loaning another 75. The deal was sealed in conjunction with the town's desire to acquire a sliver of Swets' land for relocation of the Interstate 25 frontage road required with construction of a Wal-Mart Super Store.

Within 60 days of closing on the right of way, the town will purchase with Arts in Public Places funds two pieces of Swets' sculptures. They will be displayed at the Gateway Park along the Poudre River to be constructed at the town's entrance.

The first installment of $100,000 will be paid upon substantial completion of the park or no later than Sept. 15, 2008. The second installment of $108,250 will be paid a year later. The sculptures will be delivered at time of payment.

Swets also agreed to loan Timnath 75 works to be chosen jointly. They would be loaned at no cost for a five-year term that can be extended by mutual agreement. The town will insure and maintain the sculptures, which will be displayed throughout Timnath.
