Be Creative @ Your Library, the 2009 summer reading program, is in full
swing at the Wellington Public Library. More than 500 children and young
adults have signed up for the program. Any child preschool through high
school age is eligible to participate. Register at the library or from
our web site at http://wellington.colibraries.org.
Readers can choose from a variety of prizes for their first five hours
of summer reading time. The prizes for the second five hours of reading
will be available July 13. Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades
who read three books and write short book reviews receive a First Choice
Locker Pass.
The library wants to thank local author and artist Gary Raham for presenting
our first summer reading program, "Bugs That Kill." Our next summer reading
program is July 7 at 1 p.m. We are having a craft fair that will provide
participants an opportunity to make one of several different projects.
On July 21 at 11 a.m., the High Country Cloggers from Fort Collins will
perform. The final program for the summer is on Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. Cody Langstrom
and his magic show are returning to the Wellington Public Library. You
do not want to miss his show.
If you are planning a trip or activities this summer to sites in Colorado,
the library has some new books to help with your planning. Some of our
new Colorado titles include "Fun with the Family, Colorado" by Doris Kennedy,
"Best in Tent Camping: Colorado" by Kim Lipker, "John Fielder's Best of
Colorado," "Saddle Up Colorado: The Statewide Equestrian Trail and Travel
Guide" by Sherry Snead, "Get Out of the Ring: An Equestrian's Guide to
Riding the Trails in and Around Rocky Mountain National Park" by Kim Starling
and "Ramble Colorado" by Eric Peterson.
Our book discussion group for adults is taking a short summer break. The
next meeting is Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the library. We will be discussing
"The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. This book is an outstanding memoir
of the Walls children growing up in extreme poverty that was overpowered
by love and resilience. If you would like to join us, call the library
and we will get you a copy of the book to read.
The library will be closed July 4 through 6 for the holiday.
Upcoming Tuesday preschool story and craft times are set for July 14 and
28 at 11 a.m.
The library is located in the Leeper Center at 3800 Wilson Ave. For information,
call us at 568-3040.
