Wood sort yard opens April 3The Larimer County woody biomass sort yards, partnering with Peak to Peak Wood, will open this year on April 3, if weather permits. The sort yards will take wood from forest management, fire mitigation and mountain pine beetle mitigation projects of property owners in the areas. The Stove Prairie sort yard is located on the Colard property south of Stove Prairie School. In the Red Feather Lakes area, the sort yard is located along the Creedmore Lakes Road on the Bear Creek Development property, just north of Chipeta Road. The sites will be open on Saturdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last collection day will be June 26. Logs 8 feet, 3inches or longer are preferred, though shorter logs will be accepted. No stumps will be accepted. Green slash will be accepted only at the Red Feather Lakes site. A private vender is accepting slash for a charge of $15 per pickup load. For further information, contact Dave Lentz, Larimer County forester, at 498-5765 or dlentz@larimer.org. For information on Peak to Peak Wood, go to the web site www.peaktopeakwood.org. |
