Candidates look to Nov. 2 electionLarimer County voters narrowed the field of candidates on Aug. 10 when 50,000 voters turned in ballots for the primary election. Going into the general election on Nov. 2, candidates for county sheriff are Democrat Jay Harrison, Republican Justin Smith and independent Dell Bean. The other locally contested primary race for Senate District 15 put Democrat Richard Ball on top. He will run against Republican incumbent Kevin Lundberg for the state senate seat. Several local candidates had no competition in the primary, but will face a challenge in the general election. Running for state House District 49 are Republican B.J. Nikkel and Democrat Karen Stockley. Nikkel was appointed to the post in 2009. Seeking the post of Larimer County Commissioner for District 1 are Democrat Adam Bowen and Republican Lew Gaiter. Gaiter was appointed this year to fill the unexpired term of Kathay Rennels. Complete election returns for the county are available online at www.larimer.org/2010election. The North Forty News will publish candidate profiles for the local contenders in its October issue. |
