Number of commissioners still under discussionLarimer County residents with an interest in local government are continuing the discussion of whether citizens should be represented by three or five county commissioners. On Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Harmony branch of the Fort Collins Public Library, the League of Women Voters of Larimer County will host a public forum on this topic. The Harmony library is located on the Front Range Community College Campus; use the exit off of Shields just south of Harmony Road. Frank Lancaster, county manager, will fill in the background about current and possible county organization options. Gina Janett, supporter of last year's five-commissioner petition, and Jim Disney, former county commissioner, will argue for and against changing to a five commissioner form of government; and Vickie Harimon, a league member from Arapahoe County, will describe that county's experiences with a five-commissioner board. There will be time for audience questions and interaction among the panelists. The meeting is open to the public. The League of Women Voters is an organization that encourages the informed participation of citizens in government and public policy. Membership is open to any U.S. citizen over the age of 18, and new members are always welcome. For more information visit the web site www.fortnet.org/lwv or call 667-7043. |
