Red Feather Lakes is county seat on June 16

The question "How do you see Red Feather Lakes in 10 years?" will be put to residents of the mountain village on June 16 when Larimer County Commissioners visit the community.

Last summer, more than 100 citizens from the Red Feather Lakes area attended a county seat meeting to talk with commissioners about a possible land use plan for the area. The June 16 meeting will follow up on that theme. It takes place at 7 p.m. at the Property Owners Association Building, 58 Firehouse Lane.

Commissioner Kathay Rennels, who meets with Red Feather citizens every third Wednesday of the month, also has been continuing the discussion about an area land use plan with local residents. There has been interest in that group to continue moving forward with discussion. The idea of the June 16 meeting was developed with the citizens who attend the monthly meetings. The upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity for a larger number of area residents to discuss their vision for Red Feather Lakes.

Lacking a more definitive land use plan, which matches the goals of the community, there is minimal basis for Larimer County government or landowners to make informed decisions regarding the future of the area. Current issues that have come up include commercial development and redevelopment, outdated zoning and a defined Red Feather Lakes boundary.

For further information about the upcoming meeting, call the county commissioners' office at 498-7010.
