4-H horse shows precede county fair

Two 4-H clubs are sponsoring horse shows in July at the new fairgrounds, giving participants a chance to use and adapt to the new facilities prior to the Larimer County Fair in August.

Rawhiders 4-H Club will host two pre-fair horse shows at The Ranch, July 8 and 22, open to all 4-Hers. The fee is $5 per class. Several classes are available in English or Western. Registration opens at 5 p.m. and classes begin at 6 p.m. in the Ranch-Way Feeds Indoor Arena. Those wanting more information should call Don Brehm at 663-7708.

The County Kickers 4-H Club holds a horse show and gymkhana on July 24, also in the Ranch-Way arena. Entries open at 7:30 a.m. and close two classes prior to the event. Entry fees are $5 per event and for horse classes. If a participant signs up for nine events, a $5 discount will be given. Classes begin at 8 a.m. Gymkhana will not start before 1:30 p.m. Concessions will be available.

Youngsters in the 4-H mini program are admitted free with a paid participant. Mini classes (for ages 7 and under) include sack hop, egg and spoon, boot race, flags and barrels.

There are four divisions for other ages. Riders of any age can show in the open division. Youth under age 18 must have a parent or guardian signature for participation. All 4-H rules will apply. Those wanting more information should call Sheila Johnston at 224-2046.
