RFL plan advisory group selected

Larimer County Commissioners have selected 13 people to serve on a plan advisory committee that will pull together community ideas about the way Red Feather Lakes should develop in future years.

Appointed to the Red Feather Lakes Plan Advisory Committee are Gene Allen, Gene Barker, Susan Bradley, Ted Carter, Terry Ferebee, Dennis Frydendall, Robert Isaacson, Eunice Michalka, Ross Reid, Jack Reynolds, Lucille Schmitt, Michael Sledge and Roger Svendsen. The PAC will also include County Commissioner Kathay Rennels and Planning Commissioner John Huddleston, who will serve as ex-officio members.

The first PAC meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18, 1:30 p.m., at the Property Owners' Association Building, 58 Firehouse Lane in Red Feather Lakes Village. All meetings are open to the public, although only PAC members will vote.

The PAC is made up of citizens who represent a wide array of Red Feather Lakes interests. They will advise the county commissioners, planning commission and staff team throughout the planning process.

The PAC members, with their knowledge of the community and its diverse interests, will also provide a sounding board throughout the planning process on community issues and options. They will also help draft a list of community character alternatives and plan implementation strategies. Prior to final plan adoption hearings, the PAC will make a formal recommendation to the planning commission and the county commissioners.

The process and land use plan for Red Feather Lakes will be similar to what LaPorte has used since 1980. LaPorte's plan was updated earlier this year after a two-year review process. Neither LaPorte nor Red Feather Lakes are incorporated, so final land use decisions are made by the county commissioners.

Red Feather's planning area boundary includes the Red Feather Lakes Fire Protection District, adjacent undeveloped private ownerships and the area around the public fishing areas at Parvin and Dowdy lakes.

The planning process is expected to take about 18 months to complete, with the committee generally meeting monthly. The PAC will also host several community forums and will look for other ways to communicate with the public and get feedback as the plan is developed.

For more information, or to be included on a meeting notification e-mail list, contact county planner Jill Bennett at jbennett@larimer. org or call 498-7689. A map of the planning area can be seen at www.larimer.org.
