Four finalists eyed for superintendent

Finalists for the Poudre School District superintendent's job have been invited to visit Fort Collins Jan. 10 and 11 for interviews, community meetings, a staff forum and school visits.

The public is invited to attend two events to learn more about the finalists. A reception will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Jan. 10, in the Columbine Room at the Lincoln Center. A question-and-answer forum will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Jan. 11, at the PSD Johannsen Support Services Conference Center. The forum will be televised live on PSD Channel 10, which is available through Comcast, U.S. Cable and WANTV.

The finalists and their backgrounds follow:

  • Kenneth Hoover, chief operating officer for Jefferson County School District. Prior to his current position, Hoover served as assistant superintendent for Aberdeen School District in Washington and executive director, Washington Alliance for Better Schools, Seattle. Hoover received a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies and a superintendent's certificate from the University of Washington.
  • Sandra Husk, superintendent of schools for Clarksville/Montgomery County Schools System in Clarksville, Tenn. Prior to her current position, Husk served as superintendent for Mapleton Public Schools in Adams County, Colo., and as executive director of learning services for Adams County School District 50. Husk received her Ph.D. in administration, curriculum and supervision from the University of Colorado.
  • F. Mike Miles, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8. Miles has served in a variety of positions in District 8--as a middle school principal, coordinator of administrative services and high school social studies teacher. Prior to that, Miles was a foreign services officer for the U.S. Department of State serving in Russia and Poland. A graduate of West Point, Miles earned a master's of international affairs in Soviet Studies at Columbia University in New York.
  • Gerald B. Wilson, superintendent for Hermiston School District in Oregon. Prior to his current position, Wilson served as the superintendent in Sublette School District 1, Pinedale, Wyo. Prior to that, he served as a Fullbright exchange teacher in London. Wilson received his Ph.D. in educational curriculum and instruction from the University of Wyoming.
