Boundary set for new schoolWith a new elementary school scheduled to open in Wellington in time for the 2007-08 school year, the Poudre School District board has set neighborhood boundaries for its attendance area. Neighborhoods that will send their children to the new school include Westview, Wellington Place, Wellington West, Southmoore, Boxelder, Orchard Heights, Darris Acres, Viewpointe, Knotts Landing, Vista/Cottonwood Shores, The Knolls Wellington South, Columbine Estates, Foxrun Estates, Owl Canyon MRD and Havely Farms. All neighborhoods east of Interstate 25 will attend Eyestone. The school board's decision on May 8 was part of an extended study on the best way to balance student populations in the district's elementary schools. Without a new school in Wellington and related boundary changes, Eyestone Elementary would have had 826 students in 2007. The new school will open with an estimated 270 students, leaving Eyestone with about 500 students. The boundary changes will also send children now attending Eyestone from north Fort Collins neighborhoods to a north Fort Collins school. Those neighborhoods are bounded by a line on the north midway between County Roads 52 and 54, on the east by Interstate 25, on the south by Mountain Vista Drive and on the west by County Road 11. The school has not yet been determined. |
