Name needed for new elementary school

Residents are invited to help Poudre School District select the name for
Wellington's second elementary school, scheduled for completion in the
summer of 2007.
Ellen Laubhan, communications coordinator for PSD, is chairing the naming
committee. The tentative schedule for selecting and finalizing the new
name looks like this:
- Nominations will be gathered in August and September. Laubhan will help
assemble a committee composed of core members of past school naming committees,
along with Wellington area parents, staff and community members.
- In October, the committee will discuss the naming process and review
nominations. They will select three names for consideration.
- In November, the committee will present the top three nominations to
the PSD Board for final consideration and action.
Typically, PSD names for junior high and elementary schools honor local
people who have made significant contributions to public education, including
but not limited to persons associated with elementary, junior high, senior
high, central office positions and board of education membership, unless
there is a compelling reason in favor of another name. Eyestone Elementary,
for example, was named in honor of Robert Eyestone, a coach, teacher, principal
and superintendent in PSD and mayor of Wellington in 1973.
Those submitting a school name proposal form will have to list a nominee,
give his or her background and contributions to education, dates of district
employment and the reasons (in 250 words or less) why this person deserves
recognition. Nominations must be completed by Sept. 25 and include three
letters of recommendation.
Additional information is available from Laubhan at 490-3427 or elaubhan@psdschools.org.
