Waverly holds community meetingThe Waverly Community Group, which held a full membership meeting on Sept. 30, heard a report on the results of a Waverly area survey. According to the report, the chief issues for those who responded are maintaining the rural atmosphere of the community, concern about a truck bypass through the area, minimizing the loss of agricultural land and water and annexation threats. The full report will soon be available on the group web site at www.waverlycommunity.org. The purpose of this survey was to collect and rank input from community members on community issues as well as to collect additional demographic and resource information needed to produce a future subarea plan. Larimer County recently adopted a subarea plan for the Red Feather Lakes area, but it has not allocated any funds to work on a Waverly plan. Other concerns discussed at the meeting included county restrictions on additional living quarters for a hired hand, the future of nonadjudicated water rights and ways to provide benefits to an aging population. Harold Hagen, John Ostheimer and Barb Staples were nominated to serve as at-large representatives to the group. Jane Clark, Ron Splittgerber, George Wallace and Bob Zimdahl were returned for additional three-year terms. Nancy Wallace recently filed incorporation papers for the WCG as a nonprofit organization. In 2005, the county commissioners designated a "community influence area" for a geographical region bounded by County Roads 11 and 21 on the east and west and County Roads 70 and 64 on the north and south. The Waverly Community Group encompasses this area. The Waverly Advisory Committee consists of 13 community residents serving staggered three-year terms. They meet monthly and sometimes more frequently. WCG members are invited to attend the monthly meetings, held in the Turning Point cafeteria of the old Waverly School, located on North County Road 15, on the last Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Agendas and minutes are posted at www.waverlycommunity.org. Additional information is available by calling 568-9738. |
