Saddle club provides family fun horse shows

The Rockie Mountain Saddle Club is up and running for another show season, and its events are open to all horseback riders.

The northern Colorado-based club is dedicated to providing fun, affordable learning experiences for families with horses. Riders do not have to be a member to come and show; however, the year-end awards may entice them to join.

Riders of any level can compete in the English, Western or Gymkhana Divisions. The age divisions are 6 and under, 7-10, 11-13, 14-18, and 19 and older. The contestant's age on Jan. 1 of the current year determines the age division in which he or she will compete. A separate Lead-Line Division, for all ages, will be offered for the Gymkhana Division.

Ribbons will be awarded for first through sixth place in each class. Prizes are given to the first-place winner of each class and daily high-point awards are presented to each rider who earns the most points in his or her age group for each division.

All RMSC shows are held at Folley's Arena, north of Wellington on County Road 11 just north of County Road 70 (Exit 281, Owl Canyon Road, off Interstate 25).

Show dates are April 14, April 28, May 12, June 9, June 23, July 7, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 8. The year-end awards banquet will be held Oct. 27.

English classes will begin at 8 a.m. Western classes will follow, but will not begin before 11 a.m. Gymkhana will not start before 4 p.m.

Additional information is available from Krista Moreshead at 484-1233 or Jody Matsuda at 218-5550.
