Mill levy request to be on fall ballotThe Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District plans to have a mill levy request on this fall's election ballot. If approved, the ballot issue would boost the mill levy for the fire district from 5.9 to 12 mills and would pay for construction of two new fire stations, one at Rustic and the second at Poudre Park. Bill Sears, vice president for the fire district, said the present station at Rustic has been condemned, and the one at Poudre Park is obsolete, not large enough to hold the district's large tanker truck. Sears also said that new facilities would lower property owners' fire insurance rates. "The fire board expects a net gain for property owners," he said. The two new stations would also include community centers. Property owners who would like more information about the proposed mill levy increase are invited to come to community meetings at the Lower Poudre Canyon Community Center at Poudre Park. The potluck meetings are scheduled for July 24 and Aug. 28, 7 p.m. Members of the fire district board will explain the benefits and costs of the proposed project. |
