LaPorte residents to consider renaming CR 54G

Some LaPorte residents would like to rename the main road through LaPorte that now bears the name of County Road 54G.

Larimer County's current street renaming project provides citizens with an opportunity to explore doing just that, and the LaPorte Area Planning Advisory Committee has agreed to help out with the process. Toward the end of the process, residents of CR 54G will vote on a name and the county commissioners will schedule a hearing.

New street names must meet certain criteria; the most difficult one to satisfy is the new name cannot be a name that is in use elsewhere in Larimer County. For example a street named "LaPorte Avenue" exists in Larimer County and cannot be used. However, the community could use a name such as "LaPorte Gateway Road" or "LaPorte Crossing Road."

The county prefers that a new street name is meaningful from a historical, natural or geographical perspective. To check whether a name is currently in use in Larimer County, see the web site www.larimer.org/streets.

All LaPorte area residents are invited to answer these questions: Do you want 54G renamed? Do you have a suggestion for a new name? Do you live on 54G?

Feedback may be sent by e-mail to jbennett@larimer.org or by mail to Jill Bennett, Principal Planner, Larimer County Planning Department, P.O. Box 1190, Fort Collins CO 80522-1190. LAPAC members' names and contact information are on the county's web page at www.larimer.org/boards.
