Wellington Medical Center looking for buyer

Citing "financial challenges," Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is looking for another health-care provider to take over its Wellington clinic.

CRMC opened Wellington Medical Center in fall 2006 in a new building at 7859 Sixth St. In addition to primary care physician Dr. Andrew Hughes, it has four full-time employees and one part-time employee.

Public relations manager Kathy Baker said she could not reveal names of providers in discussions with CRMC, but she hoped to have more information in a few weeks. CRMC might sell the building or lease it, she added.

"We're working very hard to find another provider to take this over," Baker said. "Our goal is to provide a seamless transition of care for the center's patients and members of the Wellington community."

Town Administrator Larry Lorentzen said town government is open to ideas for keeping a medical center in Wellington. As of Nov. 24, he had received no requests for assistance.

Baker said CRMC has no firm timeline for making a transition. The center has other outreach clinics in Wyoming and Nebraska, but Wellington is its only medical center based in Colorado.
