Dancers celebrate year of friendship set to musicThe Ponderosa Promenaders Square Dance Club of Livermore has enjoyed a very successful inaugural year, according to publicity chair Linda Goble. The club was chartered with the Northeast Colorado Square Dance Council in the summer of 2010 with 23 members and has grown to 36. Under the direction of Mark Hammett of Fort Collins, the club has graduated two mainstream square dance classes, many of the members have advanced to plus-level dancing and the club is now holding beginner round dance lessons under the direction of cuer Mitchell Thompson of Golden. The club will hold a first-anniversary celebration on July 31 at 1:30 p.m. with a potluck at Livermore Community Hall. Prerounds will begin at 2:15 with Mitchell Thompson of Golden cueing, and mainstream squares will begin at 2:45 with club caller Hammett providing the entertainment. The Promenaders hold all their dances at the Livermore Community Hall, 1.9 miles west of Highway 287 on Red Feather Lakes Road. They dance on the last Sunday of the month and hold an informal workshop every Wednesday night, polishing their skills and affording time to three local aspiring callers. Club members have also participated in community activities such as Red Feather Fire Days, and they held a fund-raising dance to benefit the Livermore Community Hall. Twenty-one members recently returned from the Colorado State Square Dance Festival, where the club was awarded the Colorado State Square Dance Promoter Award, an achievement met by only six other square dance clubs in Colorado. Mainstream square dance lessons will begin in September at Glacier View Meadows Mountain Meetin' Place. All are welcome, no partner is necessary and square dancing is family friendly.
