Gear up now for centennial

Wellington is buzzing with activity as the community gets ready for its 100th birthday party in September. Here are some times and places to put on family activity calendars.

Community band

Dust off those instruments and start practicing. The Wellington Community Band's first rehearsal is Aug. 23.

The band will perform a concert about a half-hour in length. The performance time will likely be the evening of Sept. 16 or 18.

Band members must attend four of these five rehearsals: Aug. 23, Aug. 30, Sept. 8, Sept. 13 and the mandatory Sept. 15 dress rehearsal. They will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wellington Junior High Music Room.

Pie-baking contest

Aug. 30 is the deadline to turn in an entry form for the pie-baking contest. The entry fee is $5. Judging is set for Sept. 17.

Classes are apple, cherry, peach, mixed fruit and other single fruit. All pies must be homemade (no canned filling), with two crusts in 8-inch or 9-inch sizes.

Get your entry forms in promptly because judges are accepting just 10 pies per class.

Family history

The Wellington Centennial Committee invites descendents of Wellington-area residents of the early 1900s to send in brief family histories. They should be mailed to Andy Mair, 2201 S. Lemay Ave., Apt. 214, Fort Collins, CO 80525. For information, call Wayne Sundberg at 493-3749.
