Troops from the Longs Peak Council, Boy Scouts of America will hit the pavement on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect non-perishable food for the Food Bank for Larimer County. More than 1,000 Scouts will go door to door to collect items for the 28th annual “Scouting for Food” drive.
Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops will distribute bags during the week and will return to collect donated food. The community is encouraged to place their bags of donated food outside by 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. Most needed food items include: peanut butter, canned meat in water, low sugar cereal and pasta/rice.
While many Scouts will be canvassing neighborhoods around Larimer County, others will be volunteering at the 9Cares…Colorado Shares Annual Food and Fund Drive. This year’s 9Cares event will be held outside the King Soopers at 1842 N. College Ave. in Fort Collins and at the King Soopers at 253 E. 29th St. in Loveland from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Community members can donate funds and food to benefit the programs of the Food Bank for Larimer County, including Kids Cafe which provides 1,000 nutritious meals each week to low income children; Food Link which supplies food to nearly 80 nonprofit agencies in Larimer County; and Food Share, a fresh food pantry, serving nearly 13,000 people each month.
