The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department has formed a community health and wellness partnership with Columbine Health Systems and University of Colorado Health. The partnership will enable the recreation department to upgrade health and wellness programs while increasing service levels.

Columbine and UCHealth were selected to manage Recreation’s health and wellness program after a comprehensive search process. Recreation’s revamped health and wellness services will be based out of the newly expanded Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive.

The partnership was developed in response to the increasing health and wellness needs of a rapidly growing adult population. The opening of the Senior Center expansion this summer provides ideal timing for this community partnership to officially launch.

Health and wellness programmatic offerings will be placed into three broad categories to meet the needs and interests of the community, those categories include: Health Awareness, Lifestyle Management, and Wellness and Education. Decades of experience and access to top health and wellness experts provides both organizations a strong foundation to create and deliver high quality programs.

Combining strengths and sharing resources will ensure health and wellness programs offered at the Senior Center will benefit the community and will appeal to a growing population.

Yvonne Myers, Columbine Health Systems director, looks forward to launching this partnership and providing increased health and wellness opportunities to the public.

“Columbine and UCHealth are looking forward to providing high quality, evidenced-based programs using our collective expertise, staff talent and passion for our community,” said Myers.

The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department believes that the timing of this project is ideal and aligns well with the community’s needs.

“This unique partnership will provide community members improved access to high quality health and wellness programs,” said Bob Adams, recreation director. “As you’ve heard,’Boomers’ are active and place a high priority on their health and we’re prepared to provide this large and growing population a place to pursue active lifestyles and engage in positive, life enriching programs and activities.”

Expanded health and wellness opportunities will be featured during the Senior Center’s grand opening on July 10, 11, and 12. During the grand opening the public can participate in free health and wellness programs. Additional grand opening information can be found by visiting fcgov.com/seniorcenter.

More information regarding health and wellness programs will be included in the Fall Recreator, due out July 15. The public can register for new health and wellness programs beginning August 7. Registration will be accessible via fcgov.com/Recreator, in person at the Fort Collins Senior Center or by calling 970-221-6644.
