The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol has brought the Colorado Sheriff’s Posse Association State Meet trophy to Larimer County. The trophy itself, affectionately called “The Old Man Trophy,” is a one-of-a-kind, hand-carved wooden figure of an old western sheriff. The trophy was carved by Dr. H.D. Niblack in 1962 for the Colorado State Posse Association. The overall high point scoring Sheriff’s Posse has the honor of taking “The Old Man Trophy” back to their county until the next state meet. This is considered a great honor and makes for keen competition.

The State Meet is the final event of the year for the Colorado State Sheriff’s Posse Association. This year Larimer County Posse competed against Weld County, Adams County and Denver County Posses.

The state meet, held in Greeley this year, measured the skills and abilities of the Posse members. Some of the events include team and individual Pistol Shooting, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Sorting, Calf Branding, Goat Tying and Mounted Law Enforcement Techniques. Competing Larimer County members were Jim Alderden, Barb Bowman, Kathy Messick, Devin Conley, Ken Conley, Dave Jehu, Tom Keenan, Mike Keirns, Dean Olson, Gene Olson, Terry Urista, Dick Reagan, Bob Troendly, Gary McLaughlin and John Williams.
