Five nonprofit organizations are partnering to host Poudre RiverFest, a community festival, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 in Fort Collins. Admission is free.

Sustainable Living Association, Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, Save the Poudre and Fort Collins Museum of Discovery are organizing the festival to celebrate and restore the Cache la Poudre River, a significant natural resource and recreational corridor in Fort Collins.

Poudre RiverFest will feature bird banding, bird walks, and volunteer restoration and cleanup projects at Lee Martinez Park and youth activities at the Museum in the morning. It continues in the afternoon at Legacy Park with music from The Holler!, Finnders & Youngberg and Justin Roth, educational activities and booths, a beer garden and food from local vendors. View schedule of activities at www.sustainablelivingassociation.org.

At this family-friendly festival, attendees will explore the role of the Cache la Poudre River as an important habitat for birds and other wildlife, a recreational resource, a source for clean drinking water and a part of our local heritage. The Poudre RiverFest follows the high floodwaters of 2013, so the event’s restoration activities will help restore and enhance areas affected by the flood. These volunteer restoration efforts include cleaning up trash and planting native vegetation to stabilize stream banks and improve wildlife habitat.

This is a collaborative event that brings together like-minded nonprofits in Fort Collins, each contributing its own expertise to bring the community together to learn about, restore and celebrate our special Cache la Poudre River. All proceeds from the event will benefit the festival organizers.

People are encouraged to get involved! Volunteers are needed to help with river cleanup and the festival itself. To volunteer, learn how to get your business or organization involved, or get information about the Poudre RiverFest, visit www.sustainablelivingassociation.org and search under News & Events.
