Herold Calvin Upton 74, of Livermore, passed away on Aug. 5 with his wife at his side.
Cal was born Oct. 28, 1937 in Bayard, Neb., to Harold Calvin Upton and Lenore Delite Silsby Upton. The Upton family moved to Douglas, Wyo. Cal graduated from Converse County High School in 1957 where he held a track and field championship for running the mile. Cal entered the U.S. Army 81st Artillery 1st Missile Battalion and was honorably discharged on Dec. 31, 1965.
Following his lifelong passion for the outdoor life, Cal enjoyed canoeing, riding, hunting and fishing. Cal worked as a cowboy and ranch hand, railroad gandy, open pit shovel oiler, government trapper, hunting guide, outfitter and horseshoer. With all of his life experiences and people he knew, there was never a shortage of amazing stories that were best told as only Cal could.
Cal moved to Fort Collins in 1988 and married Elizabeth R. Allen in 1991. They built a home outside of Livermore. Cal was preceded in death by his infant son Bobby Jack, his sister Marilyn Nauman and his brother Robert Upton. Surviving Cal is his wife, Elizabeth; daughters Wileen Hall of Casper Wyo., Kelly Upton of Loveland and Lauren Judge (Matt) of Livermore; his brothers Loyd Upton (Mary) and Timothy Upton (Cathy), four grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Cal’s cremains will be interned at the Douglas Park Cemetery, Douglas. A celebration of Cal’s life for family and friends was Aug. 26 in Fort Collins. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital will be greatly appreciated. Please sign a guestbook at VesseyFuneralService.com
