With sadness, friends of Michael Sledge acknowledge his passing Aug. 3 after a heroic battle with cancer. We cherish his memories and honor his ability to seek the truth in all aspects of life. With clarity, Michael saw through the layers of life’s challenges and sought to converse with and understand people of all viewpoints and backgrounds.
Born in Texas on April 9, l949, Michael’s life path engaged him in academia, to the counter culture in the 1960s, to Colorado’s mines, then returning to academia, and finally moving to Red Feather Lakes, where he was surrounded by nature, friends, and loving pets, including Ozzie, who many know would wait for Michael faithfully when he visited the library or ran errands in the village.
Michael immersed himself in the beauty of the area, as well as other landscapes in the west. He was an adventurer, a philosopher, a seeker of truth, and a true friend. He was a force and will be with us in spirit. Michael is survived by Johnnie Sledge (mother) of Texas, Joe Sledge (brother) of Texas, James Sledge (father) of North Carolina, and numerous friends, including his family of friends in the Red Feather area.
Contributions in his memory can be made to Pathways Hospice, Community Care for Northern Colorado, Memorial Donations, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525, phone 970-663-3500.
