Bill Seaworth started selling safes after shopping around for one.
“I was in the gun business in 1983 and needed a safe for myself,” he recalls. “When I found Fort Knox safes, I knew I had the Cadillac of safes for an Oldsmobile price.”
Seaworth was so impressed with the quality of products made by the family-run business in Utah, he began selling Fort Knox safes in Fort Collins. He eventually became the company’s No. 2 salesperson for 10 years in a row.
After over 20 years, Seaworth sold the business. But when the new owner called it quits, Fort Knox contacted Seaworth to see if he’d like to start it up again. He readily agreed.
“We missed the interaction with our customers,” said Seaworth, who reopened Seaworth Safe Sales in August. “And there really isn’t a bad time to sell a safe.”
Seaworth Safe Sales is a family business, with Bill’s father Edgar, his wife Paulette and son Willy working together, selling Fort Knox products exclusively.
They have nine sizes of safes available, the smallest weighing just over 500 pounds and the largest more than a ton and ranging in price from $1,200 to $14,000. All can withstand temperatures of 1680 degrees for 90 minutes, the highest fire protection rating in the industry. Delivery and installation is available along the north Front Range into Wyoming and the Eastern Plains as far as western Nebraska for an additional charge.
Seaworth also sells vault doors that can be hinged to open either inward or outward for $4,500. He realized the importance of including a fire-proof, tornado-proof, invasion-proof space in your home after seeing the devastation of the High Park Fire this summer. “No new home construction should be without one,” Seaworth says.
Seaworth admits Fort Knox safes and doors are not the cheapest on the market, but he says their quality makes them a worthwhile investment.
“Anyone can get into anywhere with the three Ts – the right tools, the proper technique and enough time,” Seaworth explains. “What you’re buying with a quality safe like Fort Knox is more time. If it takes the bad guys more time to get into your safe, that’s more time you have to make sure they don’t get your goodies.”
