Find yourself at the library.

As human beings we always seem to be trying to find ourselves. I found myself at the library — happily I might add. If you ask any of us who work here, preferably on a day when the computers are operating correctly, I’m sure we will tell you the library is a great place to work. We get the opportunity to work with people of all ages doing many different projects.

And of course, there is the extra bonus of being surrounded by books. From Kim (our certified book whisperer) to Melissa and Mary Beth (who both have a way with children and computers), our job is to help you. We hope you feel welcome and appreciated when you come to the library To show our appreciation we would be pleased if everyone would drop in and join us at the library on Jan. 15 for our annual open house. We will be serving hot chocolate, mulled hot cider and cookies all day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

During our open house the Wellington Library Friends will have the grand opening of their used book store. The used books, donated by patrons, will be in this new area across from the library. Money from the sales of the used books goes to the Wellington Library Friends. The used book store will be open the same hours as the library.

Storytimes for this month are Jan. 14 and 28 at 11 a.m. On Jan. 14, we will be making a mitten craft and on Jan. 28, we will be making a snowmen craft. Nobody has more fun with glitter and glue sticks than we do here at the library.

The WPL Bookclub will meet Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. to discuss “Orphan Train,” by Christina Baker Kline. This fictional book is based on the orphan trains that ran from 1854 to 1929. The trains carried thousands of abandoned children from the eastern cities to the Midwest farms. We have copies of this fascinating book available for check out.

The library will be closed on Jan. 20 in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

In the meantime, if you are trying to find yourself… you may be at the library. I suggest starting your search in our nonfiction area.
